Biography

Steven Weijs is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia. His research interests are centered around water resources management and hydrology, with a particular focus on dynamics, uncertainty, and information context. He addresses large research questions aimed at optimizing the flow of information within observations of complex water systems and understanding the underlying physics to enable informed decisions in water resource allocation. Dr. Weijs earned his Ph.D. in 2011 and his M.Sc. in 2004 in Water Resources Management and Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship through the AXA Research Fund and joined the Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology lab at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland, where he worked in the Cryospheric Science group. In July 2015, Dr. Weijs joined UBC's Department of Civil Engineering. He is also an instructor for UBC's Master of Engineering Leadership in Integrated Water Management.
