Biography

Steven Weldon is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at Simon Fraser University. His research focuses on the politics of diversity and immigration, particularly the recent rise of radical right and anti-immigrant politics that threaten democracy in countries like Canada, the United States, and Europe. His work has been published in prominent journals including the American Journal of Political Science, British Journal of Political Science, European Journal of Political Research, Party Politics, and West European Politics. He is the founding director of SFU’s Centre for Public Opinion and Political Representation, and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in quantitative methods and data science in political behavior. In 2018, he was awarded the Cormack Teaching Award for excellence in teaching and mentoring at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Simon Fraser University. He currently supervises students interested in elections, representation, and the politics of diversity and immigration. Additionally, he directs the Social Data Analytics minor degree program in Canada, which equips students with the skills to effectively navigate, analyze, and communicate 'big data' in a social science context.
