Biography

Dr. Zheng received his Ph.D. in Finance from the State University of New York. His research focuses on corporate finance, especially equity offerings such as initial public offerings (IPOs), seasoned equity offerings, and private placements. He has discovered interesting patterns in research, such as the performance of IPO stocks in the long run, suggesting that IPO firms tend to waste cash to raise funds. In a co-authored study, Dr. Zheng found that public firms in China use private placements to mislead investors. His work has been published in esteemed academic journals including the Journal of Banking & Finance, Financial Management, and the Journal of Empirical Finance. Dr. Zheng has received the Associates Award for Excellence in Research in both 2006 and 2019. Having previously held the BMO Professorship in Finance, Dr. Zheng was selected for the Stu Clark Professorship in Financial Management in July 2022. In this role, he provides leadership in the introduction of financial concepts to both undergraduate and graduate finance and accounting curriculums, stimulating research programming in finance and accounting.
