Biography

Dr. Stewart Harris is a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Western University and serves as the Medical Director of the Primary Care Diabetes Support Program. He has made significant contributions to diabetes research, particularly in Indigenous Peoples, hypoglycemia research, and clinical trials. Dr. Harris has authored over 300 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been actively involved in the development of clinical practice guidelines, serving as chair of the Canadian Diabetes Association's clinical practice guidelines committee. His H-index is currently 60. He has received awards such as the Ontario Ministry of Health Career Scientist Award and the Dr. Gerald S. Wong Service Award from the Canadian Diabetes Association. In addition, he was awarded the Hellmuth Prize for Achievement in Research at Western University and became a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. In recognition of his contributions to managing and reducing diabetes in vulnerable populations, Dr. Harris was appointed to the Order of Canada on July 1, 2015.
