Dr. Stuart Allan

Biography

Stuart Allan has been a Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Manchester since 2012. His research primarily investigates the role of inflammation in neurodegenerative diseases and brain injury. He has contributed significantly to understanding how inflammatory processes contribute to conditions such as stroke, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. Over his academic career, Allan has held various positions including Senior Lecturer and Lecturer within the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Manchester. His academic qualifications include a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Aberdeen and a BSc in Pharmacology from the University of Dundee. Allan's work includes innovative public engagement projects designed to communicate scientific findings to a broader audience, successfully reaching diverse groups and promoting interest in neuroscience. His ongoing research endeavors focus on targeting interleukin-1 as a potential treatment for brain injuries.
