Biography

Stuart D. Bale received his B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota in 1989 and 1994, respectively. After several years of postdoctoral work at Queen Mary College, University of London, he took a research position at the Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) at Berkeley, where he joined the Physics faculty in 2004 and became the director of SSL. He has held visiting appointments at institutions such as Observatoire de Paris (Meudon), the University of Sydney, and Imperial College London. Bale is a recipient of the 2003 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and has been elected as a Fellow of both the American Physical Society and the American Geophysical Union.
