Biography

Stuart Bennett is a Senior Lecturer and the Director of Student Experience at the Edinburgh College of Art, part of the University of Edinburgh. He is currently leading the implementation of the University’s new Student Support Programme for the academic year 2023-24. His previous roles include Head of the School of Art, Deputy Principal, and Acting Principal from 2009 to 2019. Additionally, he served as a trustee on the Council of Higher Education Art and Design (CHEAD) from 2018 to 2021 and has been a board trustee for the Collective Gallery in Edinburgh. Stuart co-led the QAA funded Creative Arts Collaborative Cluster, focusing on improving student experience in creative arts across Scottish Higher Education Institutions. An artist educator, his work emphasizes the conditions and tools of making, while demystifying the creative process. He has developed exhibitions and location-specific projects, and his research includes topics in art education, ontology, and heuristic inquiry.
