Dr. Stuart Cooper

Biography

Stuart Cooper is a Professor of Accounting at the University of Bristol, where he also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies for the School of Accounting and Finance. His expertise encompasses corporate accountability, focusing on how organizations communicate their social and environmental impacts, with a particular emphasis on sustainability reporting. He has been at Bristol since 2013 and previously held the position of Head of the Department of Accounting from 2017 to 2019. During his tenure, the department underwent significant growth and transitioned into the School of Social Sciences and Law. Stuart is a member of the Cabot Institute for the Environment and an Associate Editor for the British Accounting Review. He actively participates in various academic organizations, including the Higher Education Academy and the British Accounting and Finance Association. Before his current role, Stuart was at Aston Business School where he completed his PhD and co-directed the Social Responsibility and Sustainability Group. His research has been published in notable journals such as Accounting Business Research and Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal. He teaches courses on Accountability, Sustainability, and Financial Reporting, employing a research-led approach that incorporates practical examples from corporate activities.
