Biography

Stuart graduated from the University of Glasgow with a BSc in Physiology and Sports Science and subsequently completed a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Strathclyde. He has held post-doctoral positions at Strathclyde and Loughborough and was appointed to a Lectureship at the University of Aberdeen. In 2015, he took a position in the School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health at the University of Glasgow. His main research theme focuses on metabolic disease, specifically uncovering strategies to counteract age-related muscle mass loss, known as sarcopenia, which is associated with various metabolic disorders. Recent research has concentrated on the combined effects of resistance exercise and omega-3 fatty acids, utilizing novel analytical techniques to deepen the understanding of the mechanisms underlying sarcopenia. Furthermore, his interests extend to the potential of high-intensity interval training as a public health tool, collaborating with colleagues in Aberdeen to explore the aetiology of fatigue in rheumatic conditions.
