Stuart Haslam obtained his PhD from the University of Leeds and has conducted postdoctoral research at Imperial College London. His work primarily focuses on structural glycobiology, particularly the glycosylation of nematode parasites, which has laid the foundations for high sensitivity mass spectrometric analysis of complex mixtures of oligosaccharides. This work has been widely exploited in glycomic analysis. He received the Young Scientist Award for his contributions and has been involved in organizing program committees, including the XIVth International Symposium on Glycoconjugates held in Zurich, Switzerland. His recent research encompasses the structural analysis of glycoconjugates from diverse biological origins, ranging from bacteria to humans, and includes analyses of cancer-derived cell lines. Appointed to a lectureship in 2002 at Imperial College London, he also serves on the International Steering Committee of the Consortium for Functional Glycomics (CFG) and is the Director of the Analytical Glycotechnology Core facility. This NIH-funded initiative aims to understand the role of carbohydrate-protein interactions in cell-cell communication, providing resources for the international scientific community. He is also a member of the Steering Committee for the EuroCarbDB consortium, which is funded by the European Commission and is developing web-based carbohydrate databases with significant contributions from Imperial College.
