Biography

Stuart E. Madnick is the John Norris Maguire Professor of Information Technology at the Sloan School of Management and a Professor of Engineering Systems at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has been a faculty member at MIT since 1972, and during his tenure, he led the Information Technologies Group for over twenty years. Under his leadership, the group was consistently rated as the number one program in the nation for information technology at business schools by U.S. News & World Report, BusinessWeek, and ComputerWorld. He is an affiliate member of MIT's Laboratory for Computer Science and holds notable positions on various advisory and executive committees. Madnick has authored and co-authored around 380 publications, including a classic textbook in Operating Systems and significant works in information technology. His current research interests include the integration of disparate distributed information systems, database technology, and the strategic use of information technology. Madnick is also a co-Director of the Productivity from Information Technology Initiative and co-head of the Total Data Quality Management research program, while leading significant DARPA-funded research efforts. He has held visiting professor positions at universities around the world and has been a consultant to major corporations.
