Biography

Stuart S. Rosenthal is a Professor and Chair at the Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate at Cornell University. He previously served as a Professor and Senior Research Associate at the Maxwell Advisory Board on Economics at Syracuse University. His research interests encompass aspects of economics relating to cities, housing, mortgage markets, local tax policy, spatial patterns of productivity, and land use costs. He has served on the editorial boards of numerous academic journals and has been the co-managing editor for the Journal of Urban Economics since 2007. His published work includes papers in prestigious journals such as the American Economic Review and the Review of Economics and Statistics. Rosenthal’s expertise in real estate markets has advanced critical discourse from multiple perspectives, positioning him to lead the development of real estate education at Cornell. He is a Fellow of the Homer Hoyt School of Advanced Studies in Real Estate and Urban Economics and is associated with the Regional Science Association International. Rosenthal has held various leadership roles, including serving on the council of the Urban Economics Association, and was an executive officer for the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association from 2013 to 2015 and from 2017 to 2021. He received the RSAI Walter Isard Award for Scholarly Achievement in 2013 and holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. in economics from Bowdoin College.
