Biography

Su Chin Heo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine. He received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Inje University in 2006 and 2008, respectively, and completed his Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania in 2015. His research expertise includes musculoskeletal cell tissue engineering, focusing on developing new therapeutic strategies for the repair and regeneration of dense fibrous tissues, emphasizing the tendon, ligament, and knee meniscus. Dr. Heo's laboratory is investigating how biophysical cues within the cellular microenvironment impact cell biology and tissue remodeling processes such as degeneration and repair. He is particularly interested in the effects of chemo-mechanical cues on stem cell differentiation and the development of multiphasic tissue constructs for regenerative medicine. His innovative research methods utilize advanced bioreactor systems and super-resolution microscopy techniques to understand the spatial organization of the genome in fibrous connective tissues. Dr. Heo aims to produce new therapeutic strategies for musculoskeletal disorders through his research programs.
