Dr. Suat Irmak

Biography

Suat Irmak is a Professor and Head of the Agricultural Biological Engineering Graduate Program at Penn State University. His expertise includes soil water resources engineering with a specific focus on the impact of climate change on water resources and agro-ecosystem productivity. He is well-versed in measurement and modeling related to surface energy balance, evapotranspiration, and the interaction of irrigation science with agro-ecosystem water management. Irmak's research also extends to nitrogen management's effects on water and soil quality, the impact of tillage practices on water energy balance, and the role of cover crops in enhancing soil health. Additionally, he investigates plant abiotic stresses and their effects on productivity, specializing in measurement and modeling of soil moisture dynamics within specialty cropping systems and agricultural IoTs. He obtained his Ph.D. in Agricultural Biological Engineering from the University of Florida and has a Master’s degree in Soil Water Resources from Mediterranean University in Turkey, alongside a Bachelor's degree from Cukurova University, also in Turkey.
