Dr. Suat Irmak

Biography

Suat Irmak is a Professor and the Head of the Agricultural Biological Engineering Graduate Program at Pennsylvania State University. His expertise lies in soil water resources engineering, climate change impacts on water resources, and agro-ecosystem productivity. He focuses on the measurement and modeling of surface energy, water vapor balance, evapotranspiration, transpiration, and evaporation. His research covers various aspects of irrigation science and engineering, agro-ecosystem water management, nitrogen management related to water and soil quality, and the effects of tillage practices on the water energy balance and water productivity. Irmak has also studied the impact of cover crops on soil quality and the relationship between plant abiotic stresses and productivity, including plant phenotyping and soil moisture dynamics. He has contributed significantly to the field through his research in specialty cropping systems and Agricultural Internet of Things (IoT).
