Biography

Subini Ancy Annamma is an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University. Her research critically examines the ways students who are criminalized resist criminalization and explores the mutually constitutive nature of racism and ableism, and their intersections impacting youth education trajectories in urban schools and youth prisons. Annamma positions students as knowledge generators, exploring narratives that inform teacher special education practices. Her book, 'Pedagogy Pathologization', which focuses on the educational trajectories of incarcerated disabled girls of color, won the 2019 AESA Critic’s Choice Book Award and the 2018 NWSA Alison Piepmeier Book Prize. She has previously worked as a Ford Postdoctoral Fellow and received multiple awards including the AERA Division G Early Career Award and the Outstanding Emerging Scholar Award from the Western Social Science Association. Annamma has published in various scholarly journals including Educational Researcher and Teachers College Record, and has a strong academic background with a Ph.D. in Educational Equity & Cultural Diversity from the University of Colorado Boulder.
