Dr. Sucheta Ghoshal

Biography

Sucheta Ghoshal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington. Ghoshal is an interdisciplinary researcher who focuses on critical computing, examining the intersections of computational technologies with issues of race, gender, class, and caste. Her research investigates how technologies can be used for liberatory purposes and the possibilities for resistance and subversion in computational practices. Ghoshal's current projects explore the formation and refusal of computational regimes in various contexts, including migration, agriculture, and labor. She has a strong background in community organizing and has worked in South Asia and the U.S. Ghoshal has been recognized for her work in human-computer interaction, particularly at conferences such as DIS and CSCW. She has also served as the Academic Director of a queer Black Asian tech magazine. Ghoshal holds a PhD in Human-Centered Computing from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a B.Tech in Computer Science Technology from West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata.
