Biography

Suellyn Scarnecchia, JD, is a Clinical Professor Emerita of Law at the University of Michigan Law School. She returned to the Law School in 2012 to join the Human Trafficking Clinic after spending a decade in academic administrative posts. In 2015, in addition to her duties at the Human Trafficking Clinic, Scarnecchia helped launch the Veterans Legal Clinic. She served as vice president and general counsel for the University of Michigan from 2008 to 2012, where she advised the president, Board of Regents, and executive officers on legal issues, represented the office on various matters, and managed the operations of U-M General Counsel across various departments, including Health System and Technology Transfer. Scarnecchia also led the development of the University’s comprehensive compliance program during her tenure. From 2003 to 2008, she was the dean of the University of New Mexico School of Law, where she also chaired judicial selection commissions as required by the state constitution. Throughout her career, Scarnecchia has been actively involved with various legal organizations, including serving as a board member for the UNM Science Technology Corporation and co-chairing the New Mexico Governor’s Task Force on Ethics Campaign Reform.
