Biography

Suguru Ishizaki specializes in writing, communication, and user experience design, bringing decades of experience in both academia and industry. He currently serves as a Professor of English at Carnegie Mellon University, where he also directs the Professional & Technical Writing Programs. His research focuses on designing AI-enhanced writing environments and computer-assisted rhetorical analysis. Over the years, Ishizaki has published numerous articles in these areas and authored influential texts including 'Improvisational Design: Continuous, Responsive Digital Communication' (MIT Press, 2003), which explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and communication design, and 'Power Words: Unveiling Speaker Writer's Hidden Craft' (Erlbaum, 2004). Additionally, he co-authored 'Arab Women Arab News: Old Stereotypes New Media' (Bloomsbury, 2012). Prior to his current role, he worked as a senior staff engineer at Qualcomm, contributing to research and development in product management for early mobile applications, and has also been a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon's School of Design. Ishizaki holds both a master's degree and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Laboratory and has served as the past president of the IEEE Professional Communication Society.
