Professor Dr. Suhail Zubairy

Biography

M. Suhail Zubairy is a University Distinguished Professor and the holder of the Munnerlyn/Heep Endowed Chair in Quantum Optics at Texas A&M University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester in 1978, under the supervision of Prof. Emil Wolf. Before joining Texas A&M in 2000, he held research and teaching appointments at the Optical Sciences Center of the University of Arizona and the Center for Advanced Studies at the University of New Mexico, and served as the founding Chairman of the Department of Electronics at Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan. His prolific research includes topics such as quantum optics, laser physics, quantum computing, quantum informatics, quantum state measurement, and coherent atomic effects. He has published several authoritative books including 'Quantum Optics' and 'Quantum Mechanics for Beginners.' Zubairy has received numerous prestigious awards such as the Willis E. Lamb Award for Laser Science and Quantum Optics, the Alexander von Humboldt Research Prize, and various honors from the Government of Pakistan. He is an elected member of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the Optical Society of America.
