Biography

Sui Wang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University School of Medicine. His research focuses on unraveling molecular mechanisms underlying retinal development diseases. He employs genetic and genomic tools to explore retinal cell types, neurons, glia, and vasculature, responding to developmental cues and disease insults at epigenomic and transcriptional levels. Wang investigates the interactions and contributions that maintain retinal integrity. His work includes investigating retinal development using genetic tools and methods such as in vivo plasmid electroporation and CRISPR to dissect the roles of cis-regulatory elements and transcription factors in controlling retinal development. He also studies diabetes-induced cell-type-specific responses in the retina, particularly the molecular mechanisms contributing to diabetic retinopathy. Additionally, he is developing molecular tools for labeling and manipulating specific cell types in vivo.
