Dr. Sulayman Dib Hajj

Biography

Sulayman Dib-Hajj is a Professor of Neurology at Yale University, where he also serves as the Associate Director of the Center for Restoration of Nervous System Function at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He earned his B.S. in Biology in 1977 and M.S. in Biology in 1982 from the American University of Beirut, followed by a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from Ohio State University in 1990. His research primarily investigates voltage-gated sodium channels and their role in inherited and acquired pain disorders. Dr. Dib-Hajj has explored the effects of mutations on the biophysical properties and trafficking of sodium channels, which are critical for neuronal excitability. His recent work includes studying modulation of sodium channels through post-translational modifications and live imaging techniques to understand channel trafficking in sensory neurons. He has contributed to the scientific community as a member of editorial boards for various journals and has been involved in reviewing for national and international funding agencies. His professional affiliations include the Society for Neuroscience and the International Association for the Study of Pain. Dr. Dib-Hajj is recognized for his extensive research that has implications in understanding pain mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets.
