Biography

Suleyman Gulsuner is an Associate Professor in the Division of Medical Genetics at the University of Washington, where he has been a faculty member since January 2017. He completed his MD at Dokuz Eylul University in Izmir, Turkey, in 2005 and obtained his PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, in 2011. His research is primarily focused on identifying coding and non-coding mutations in individuals with monogenic Mendelian disorders as well as complex mental illnesses. Additionally, his work involves the integration of clinical characterization and gene discovery through biological network analysis and functional characterization to better understand the genetic bases of various phenotypes. His lab also engages in clinical sequencing projects to enhance the identification of causative mutations, which are critical for personalized medicine applications. Gulsuner has published numerous articles in reputable scientific journals and has received awards including the NARSAD Young Investigator Award in 2014. He was also a Senior Fellow at the University of Washington in Seattle in 2016.
