Biography

Suma Rajiva specializes in Kant and early modern philosophy, particularly the works of Descartes and Hume, as well as ancient philosophy with a focus on Plato. Her research interests extend to nineteenth-century philosophy, especially German Idealism, and Marxism, alongside philosophical themes in literature. Dr. Rajiva has contributed to various academic publications on Kant's epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, and aesthetics appearing in journals such as Kant-Studien and Kant Yearbook. She is engaged in two major research projects currently: one focuses on linking Kant's epistemology with aesthetics and the philosophy of life, while the other explores the political dimensions of Plato's Sophist Statesman. In addition to these primary research areas, her scholarly pursuits include study of Plato, Descartes, Hume, Leibniz, Locke, Spinoza, and moral themes in literature, particularly in the context of Greek and Roman tragedies as well as medieval German epics. Dr. Rajiva regularly teaches courses on Descartes, Hume, Kant, and Plato, with seminars on Leibniz and Spinoza.
