Biography

Sumedha Nitin Prabhu received a B.Sc. degree in Biotechnology from the University of Mumbai, India, in 2011, followed by a Master’s degree in Biotechnology in 2013. She completed her PhD in sensors and smart sensing systems at the School of Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, in December 2021. Her PhD research focused on the development of a point-of-care diagnostic prototype system for kidney health monitoring, with significant contributions to the fields of smart sensing systems and embedded systems for the early detection of diseases in humans. Prabhu has a strong record of teaching, having supervised and guided numerous students in their research projects. Additionally, she has been recognized with several awards for her academic achievements, including the People's Choice Award for the 3 Minute Thesis competition at Macquarie University. She is actively involved in professional societies, such as IEEE, where she has served in various roles, including Vice-Chair of the Women in Engineering Affinity Group. Prabhu’s leadership and community engagement have been notable, especially in promoting women in STEM through workshops and presentations. Her work aims to advance biomedical engineering and smart sensing solutions for healthcare applications, making significant strides toward innovative diagnostic tools.
