Biography

Sumit Roy has been a faculty member in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Washington since 1998 and is currently the CoE/ECE Integrated Systems Professor. He directs the Fundamentals Networking Laboratory with research interests spanning wireless communication, sensor network systems, and emerging technologies such as 4G and 5G. From 2001 to 2003, he took an academic leave to work as a Senior Researcher at Intel's Wireless Technology Lab, contributing to system architecture and standards development for ultra-wideband systems and high-speed wireless LANs. An active member of the IEEE Communications Society, Roy was elevated to IEEE Fellow in 2007 for his significant contributions to multi-user communications and wireless networking standards. He has served as a Distinguished Lecturer for the Society and is frequently a speaker at 5G forums.
