Dr. Sumona Saha

Biography

Sumona Saha, MD, MS, is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, specializing in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She is recognized for her clinical focus on women's gastrointestinal health, particularly in relation to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Dr. Saha has held various leadership roles, including being the lead physician at the UW Health Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic and directing the Gastrointestinal Disorders Pregnancy Clinic. She has been actively involved in the education of future physicians through her contributions to the Gastroenterological Association's Academy of GI Liver Educators. Dr. Saha's research interests concentrate on the intersection of IBD and women's health, focusing on aspects such as menstrual function, body image, and sexual function in patients. She has also investigated fertility issues within this patient population and has served as the principal investigator on numerous longitudinal and observational studies in IBD clinical trials assessing novel therapies. Dr. Saha's contributions to the field are supported by numerous grants, including the Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health K1-12 award, demonstrating her commitment to advancing research in women's health.
