Biography

Sune Kjærsgaard Yang-Jensen holds a BSc and MSc in Molecular Biomedicine and a PhD in Metabolic Research. Currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Jensen Group focused on Nutritional Immunology, he aims to advance understanding of host-microbe interactions in immunometabolic diseases. His work centers on designing clinically relevant animal models that mirror human physiology and pathology, bridging the gap between mechanistic insight and translational relevance. Sune has extensive experience in in vivo experimentation, emphasizing the complex interplay between gut microbiota and host on key biological axes—gut-liver, gut-lung, and gut-brain. Current projects explore the influence of these interactions on immunometabolic, immune-mediated, and neurodegenerative diseases, employing mechanistic models, advanced imaging, and human-derived samples to dissect relationships and explore therapeutic gains. He collaborates closely with academic and industrial partners in Denmark and abroad, having conducted research time in Hong Kong and Canada. Sune is an active member of the Copenhagen Gut Microbiome Hub's Early Career Researcher Team, fostering collaboration among young scientists in the microbiome field. He also leads the Outreach Team at the University of Copenhagen Association for Postdocs and PhD Students (UCAPS), focusing on raising visibility, engagement, career development, advocacy, and community-building initiatives for PhDs and Postdocs across university faculties.
