Dr. Sung Ae Lee

Biography

Sung-Ae Lee's major research focus is on literature, film, and television drama in East Asia, with particular attention to Korea. Her scholarly activities center on the relationships between cultural ideologies and how Asian societies utilize representational strategies. She is interested in various fields, including cognitive approaches, adaptation studies, Asian popular culture, and the impact of colonization on Asia. Her research also delves into Trauma Studies, examining literature and media produced in the aftermath of the Korean War and the representation of the Korean diaspora. Lee holds two PhDs, one in English Literature and the other in Asian Studies, both from Macquarie University. Her past academic qualifications include an MA in English with merit from the University of Sydney, an MA in Linguistics from California State University, Fresno, and a BA in English from Ewha Women's University. She lectures on a range of topics, including intercultural perspectives in language and literature, Asian cinema, and global studies, providing students with a thorough understanding of cultural dynamics in a globalized context. In her supervisory role, she has guided multiple PhD candidates, contributing to the academic growth of several scholars in the field.
