Sung Kyu Lim is Dean’s Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Southern California. He joined USC in Fall 2025 after serving as the Motorola Solutions Foundation Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he began his academic career in 2001. Dr. Lim received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1994, 1997, and 2000, respectively. His research specializes in architecture, design, and electronic design automation (EDA) for 2.5D and 3D integrated circuits. He has authored more than 400 publications in these areas, gaining recognition for his contributions, including the Paper Award from the IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems in 2022 and from the ACM Design Automation Conference in 2023. Dr. Lim has received the NSF CAREER Award in 2006 and has been featured in Communications of the ACM in 2014. He is a Fellow of IEEE and has served as a Program Manager for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Microsystems Technology Office. His innovative work in EDA has significantly advanced the capabilities of design automation processes for heterogeneous AI chips, particularly utilizing multi-chip integration strategies. Dr. Lim has also been honored with multiple teaching awards at Georgia Tech, reflecting his dedication to education and student development.
