Biography

Dr. Sunil Patel is an Associate Professor and Attending Staff at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre with a specialization in colorectal surgery. He is fellowship trained in minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, and laparoscopic techniques, particularly in transanal total mesorectal excision (Ta-TME). Dr. Patel leads a high-volume robotic colorectal surgery program in the province and collaborates with a team of high-volume rectal cancer surgeons in Southeastern Ontario. He completed his general surgery residency in London, Ontario, followed by a colorectal surgery fellowship at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. His research interests focus on identifying barriers to treatment for colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease patients, as well as utilizing smartphone technology to provide clinically effective, evidence-based healthcare. Dr. Patel is involved with multiple clinical trials aimed at improving outcomes in colorectal surgery.
