Suong Nguyen was born and raised in Da Nang, Vietnam. In 2013, he moved to the United States to pursue undergraduate studies at the University of Mississippi. He completed his PhD in Organic Chemistry in 2022 under the supervision of Prof. Robert Knowles at Princeton University. His dissertation focused on developing light-driven methods for several applications including the construction of aliphatic C&N bonds via olefin hydroamidation, converting low-value biomass into high-value chemical feedstocks, and chemically recycling plastic waste to create new sustainable plastics. Additionally, his work included methods to covalently attach target molecules to diamond surfaces for nanoscale sensing applications. Following his doctoral studies, he joined the laboratory of Prof. Jeremiah Johnson at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Schmidt Science Postdoctoral Fellow where he worked on molecular strategies to enhance polymer toughness, new ligand designs for synthesizing gold nanoparticles for bio-applications, and sustainable commodity plastics. In March 2025, he joined the Institute of Chemical Science and Engineering at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor leading the Laboratory of Synthetic Polymer Chemistry.
