Biography

Supapit Wongkuna is a postdoctoral researcher in the Björn O. Schröder group, focusing on gut microbiota and intestinal mucosal barrier function. He earned his PhD in Biochemistry from Mahidol University in Thailand. His research background includes working in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at South Dakota State University, where he studied gut microbiota in chickens. His work involved the isolation, identification, and characterization of gut bacteria to develop potential bacterial communities for pathogen control and improving animal health. Since joining Björn O. Schröder's lab in June 2021, he has specialized in ex vivo methods to measure mucus from live tissue. His current research aims to investigate the effects of casein glycomacropeptides (CGMP) fractions on colonic mucus function and gut microbiota. Outside of his laboratory work, he enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing and is an active member of the Umeå Postdoc Society (UPS).
