Biography

Professor Menon joined Flow Industries, Kent, Washington, as a research scientist in 1988 and became a senior scientist program manager for the computational fluid dynamics group at Quest Integrated, Inc. (formerly Flow Research, Inc.). At Quest, he led research teams on active control combustion instability in ramjet engines, supersonic mixing studies, VTOL aircraft fluid dynamics, and hypersonic reentry problems. In 1992, he joined the Georgia Institute of Technology as an associate professor and became a professor in 1997. Currently, he holds the title of Hightower Professor at Georgia Tech. Professor Menon is a world-renowned expert in large-eddy simulation for turbulent reacting and non-reacting flows and has developed unique simulation capabilities to study pollutant formation, ozone depletion in high-altitude aircraft jet plumes, and combustion in gas turbine and ramjet engines. He is the principal investigator for a wide range of research projects funded by NASA, the Department of Energy, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Office of Naval Research, and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. His work has supported industries such as General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, Boeing, and JAXA, and he has published 395 papers. He is a Fellow of AAAS, an Associate Fellow of AIAA, and a member of the American Physical Society, among others.
