Surya Santoso holds the Engineering Foundation Centennial Teaching Fellowship in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Satya Wacana Christian University in Indonesia in 1992 and completed his M.S.E and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin in 1994 and 1996, respectively. He was a postdoctoral fellow under the auspices of the Electric Power Research Institute in 1997 and worked as a Senior Power Systems Consulting Engineer at Electrotek Concepts from 1997 to 2003. Since joining The University of Texas at Austin in 2003, his research interests have concentrated on transmission and distribution systems including modeling and simulation, and automated root-cause analysis of power quality disturbances. Over the past 20 years, his students have published over 40 journal and 100 conference papers. His publications have garnered over 8,800 citations, and he has supervised 15 doctoral and 30 M.S. students who have gone on to become professors, researchers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and medical doctors in the U.S. and abroad. He is a co-author of "Electrical Power Systems Quality" and has authored a textbook on power quality. Additionally, he has served in various roles within the IEEE, including as a Distinguished Lecturer and Editor for IEEE Transactions on Power Systems.
