Biography

Susan B. Boyd is a Professor Emerita at the Peter Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, where she has significantly contributed to feminist legal theory and family law. She joined Allard School of Law in 1992, previously teaching at Carleton University's Department of Law. Boyd held the endowed research Chair in Feminist Legal Studies from 1992 to 2015 and was the founding Director of the Centre for Feminist Legal Studies from 2007 to 2012. Even after retiring, she maintains her connection with UBC as a Professor Emerita. Boyd's research focuses on gender and sexuality issues within family law, particularly concerning child custody and the legal implications of parenthood. She has co-edited and authored multiple influential works, including 'Autonomous Motherhood? A Socio-Legal Study of Choice and Constraint' and 'Law and Families'. Recognized for her scholarly contributions, she was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2012 and has received several awards, including the Faculty Scholar Award in 2010. Boyd is also a long-standing member of the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Women and the Law and has been involved in law reform initiatives to promote social change for women.
