Biography

Susan Christian is a genetic counsellor affiliated with Alberta Precision Laboratories at Alberta Health Services. She completed her Bachelor's Degree with a specialization in Genetics at the University of Alberta in 1996, followed by a Master of Science in Genetic Counselling from the University of British Columbia in 1999. In 2019, she obtained her PhD in Medical Genetics from the University of Alberta. With a focus on pediatric, prenatal, cardiac, and neurogenetics, she currently serves as a laboratory genetic counsellor, cross-appointed to the Medical Genetics Clinic, where she practices cardiac genetics. As a course coordinator for MEDGEN501, Dr. Christian's research interests include predictive genetic testing for minors, inherited heart disease, cost-utility of genetic testing, and communication of newborn screening results. Her selected publications address topics such as the evaluation of the face validity of core concepts in novel knowledge scales for inherited heart disease, the prevalence of lipid assessments in children, and more, contributing significantly to the field of genetic counselling and healthcare.
