Biography

Susan Clutter received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Clark University and a master’s degree in Forensic Science from George Washington University. She began her career as a crime scene investigator for Montgomery County and Baltimore City Police Departments in Maryland before becoming a college professor in 2003. She has taught at various schools in Maryland and Virginia. Professor Clutter has developed and taught curriculum at the Virginia Fire Marshal Academy and the State Department’s Antiterrorism Assistance Program (ATA). Before arriving at Penn State University, she was a Full Professor in the Forensic Science program at Youngstown State University in Ohio, where she taught for 14 years. Professor Clutter has received the title of Distinguished Professor for her achievements in teaching, scholarship, and service. She is the lead author of the textbook entitled 'So You Want to Be a CSI?', published in 2021, which includes a virtual crime scene component allowing students to gain hands-on experience in a mock scene laboratory.
