Biography

Susan Dickerson-Lange is a hydrologist and geomorphologist with extensive experience in applied research related to watershed hydrology. She focuses on co-creating climate adaptation strategies with community partners and exhibits strategic organizational leadership. Susan earned her PhD in Hydrology from the University of Washington and is currently an affiliate assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She maintains collaborations with the Colleges of Engineering and Environment. Previously, Susan served as the Principal Hydrologist for the Climate Impacts Group and worked with a Washington-based environmental consulting firm called Natural Systems Design. Over the past eight years, she has collaborated with Tribes, NGOs, agencies, and municipalities, leading teams of scientists and engineers to develop and design restoration projects aimed at creating resilience strategies that benefit both communities and ecosystems. Susan has degrees in Geology from the College of William and Mary and Western Washington University, and she has teaching experience at both college and K-12 levels, along with directing outdoor programs at YMCA Camp Seymour in Pierce County. Her research interests are centered on leveraging field observations, geospatial data, and numerical models to characterize interactions between climate, land management, and hydrologic geomorphic processes.
