Biography

Susan Fields is a Clinical Associate Professor at Texas A&M University’s College of Education and Human Development, where she directs the Graduate Certification program. Her work is rooted in the belief that adolescents deserve rigorous, relevant, and affirming literacy experiences. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses focused on adolescent literacy instruction, assessment, and children’s/young adult literature, as well as content-area/disciplinary literacy. Her research examines the intersection of identity and literacy learning, investigating how pre-service teachers make choices about diverse texts in educational contexts. Fields' work has been published in several academic journals including the Journal of Literacy Research, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, and Reading & Writing Quarterly. Prior to her academic career, she taught middle school English and served as a literacy tutor and coach in Houston, TX, and Boston, MA.
