Professor Dr. Susan Fussell

Biography

Susan Fussell is a Professor in the Department of Communication and the Department of Information Science at Cornell University. She received her Ph.D. in psychology from Columbia University. Her research primarily focuses on computer-mediated communication and human-computer interaction, with specific interests in how gesture and gaze serve as communication channels that help people coordinate their efforts in physical tasks. Her current projects explore the effects of culture and native language on computer-mediated communication, the collaboration of intelligence analysts, tools to motivate individuals to reduce energy usage, and advances in human-robot interaction and telepresence robotics. She teaches theories of communication and research methods aplicated in computer-mediated communication and social computing. She supervises advanced graduate research and independent study courses across multiple disciplines, emphasizing collaborative work and communication in various formats.
