Biography

Susan Gass is a University Teaching Fellow at Dalhousie University's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. She obtained her Ph.D. from the Scottish Association for Marine Science/Open University in 2006. Gass has a strong background in environmental science with degrees including a Master of Environmental Studies from Dalhousie University in 2002 and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Environmental Science from McGill University in 1998. Her scientific interests focus on biology and ecology conservation, specifically cold-water corals, and their response to impacts from fishing, offshore oil and gas activities, and marine pollution. She is actively involved in biodiversity conservation efforts that emphasize biodiversity in urban environments. Gass also seeks to explore student-led directed readings on topics such as Hemlock Woolly Adelgid and urban biodiversity.
