Dr. Susan Heavey

Biography

Susan Heavey is an Associate Professor in Translational Medicine at University College London (UCL). She specializes in using 3D ex vivo models to predict treatment responses in cancer. Susan's research focuses on improving the biological relevance of current cancer models, including explants and 3D culture cell line models, leveraging advanced generation approaches. Her research team, established in 2020, investigates the integration of 3D models and spatial transcriptomics for studying solid tumours. Her work aims to enhance the success rates of translational findings from the lab to clinical settings, addressing health inequalities and sustainability within clinical and translational research. Susan holds a Bachelor's degree, a postgraduate diploma, and a PhD, with a diverse range of postdoctoral research projects during her tenure at Trinity College Dublin before joining UCL in 2016. She is passionate about advancing clinical research that benefits patients and improves healthcare systems.
