Biography

Susan MacDonald is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland, specializing in Family Medicine. A graduate of McMaster University with an MD degree and further training in Palliative Medicine at both Queen’s University and Harvard University, she has become a leading educator in the field. Dr. MacDonald is known for her extensive involvement in the undergraduate medical program at Memorial, primarily focusing on teaching Palliative Care at the postgraduate level within the Family Medicine residency programs. She previously held the position of Acting Assistant Dean of Admissions and has served on various provincial and national committees concerning Palliative Care. In recognition of her contributions, she has received several awards, including the 2007 and 2012 ISD II Teacher of the Year Awards and the 2014 Dr. Wallace Ingram Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching. She is active in initiatives to enhance hospice care in the St. John’s area and has led efforts in establishing the Palliative Medicine subspecialty within the Royal College.
