Biography

Susan K. McConnell is the Susan B. Ford Professor of Humanities Sciences and an HHMI Professor at Stanford University. Her research centers on the development of the central nervous system, focusing on critical processes such as the production of neurons from progenitor cells, the determination of discrete neuronal phenotypes, and the migration of young neurons to appropriate positions in the brain. McConnell's work aims to understand how neurons in the developing cerebral cortex are produced and assigned specific phenotypes, as well as how they are wired together into functional circuits that underlie complex behaviors. The lab has been closed for several years to enable Professor McConnell to focus on undergraduate education and is no longer accepting students, postdocs, or research assistants.
