Biography

Susan Perkin is a Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Trinity College. She studied at St. John’s College, Oxford, where she obtained her MChem in 2002, and completed her DPhil at Balliol College in 2006 as a Jowett Senior Scholar. During her doctoral studies, she was a visitor at the Weizmann Institute of Science. From 2005 to 2008, Susan was elected as a Junior Research Fellow at Merton College. She then moved to University College London from 2007 to 2012 as an RCUK Fellow and Lecturer, establishing a laboratory focused on ionic liquids and liquid interfaces. In 2012, she joined the Physical & Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Oxford. Susan's research interests include concentrated electrolytes, ionic liquids, molecular mechanisms of friction and lubrication, and dynamic properties of fluids in confined geometries. She has received several prestigious awards, including the ERC Starting Grant in 2015 and the Royal Society of Chemistry's Harrison-Meldola Memorial Prize in 2016. Susan actively contributes to the academic community through her roles in various committees and editorial boards.
