Professor Dr. Susan Peters

Biography

Susan Peters is an epidemiologist and exposure scientist at Utrecht University, leading the Occupational Health group within the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences. Her primary research focus is on exposure assessment in occupational epidemiology and chronic disease epidemiology, particularly concerning external causes of chronic diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative and respiratory diseases. With expertise in exposure assessment methods, she aims to enhance global working conditions and health. Current research projects under her direction include the LEXCES project, which serves as a national expert centre for occupational diseases; the EPHOR project, addressing the exposome's impact on health; and NeuroEPIC, which studies risk factors for ALS and Parkinson's disease within a prospective cohort. Peters also leads projects investigating the health effects of pesticide exposure and the automation of job coding using artificial intelligence. Through initiatives like SYNERGY and OMEGA-Net, she contributes to studies on occupational carcinogens and coordination of European occupational cohorts, respectively.
