Biography

Susan Prescott is a Professor of Planetary Health at the University of Western Australia and a senior principal research fellow. She is a pediatrician and immunologist recognized for her groundbreaking research on early environmental determinants of health and disease. With over 30 years of practice as a physician at Perth Children’s Hospital, she founded the ORIGINS Project, a $30 million initiative examining how environmental factors influence health across the lifespan. Prescott is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Challenges and has a special interest in the interdisciplinary discourse of planetary health. As the founding director of Nova Network, she works within a global network addressing the interactions between health and the environment. Prescott is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, and she has been awarded more than $52 million in research grants. Her research focuses on early life risk factors linked to noncommunicable diseases, particularly asthma, allergies, and obesity. An author of numerous scientific publications and books for wider audiences, Prescott also engages actively in promoting the social determinants of health through a holistic approach.
