Biography

Susan Ramsey's research focuses on developing and testing novel behavioral interventions to address substance use, prevent HIV, and improve medication adherence for persons living with HIV. Her current work focuses on developing and testing interventions aimed at promoting the uptake of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for incarcerated women and linking them to community-based PrEP care upon their release from incarceration. She has completed a pilot study of an mHealth-facilitated health coaching intervention aimed at improving HIV medication adherence, which demonstrated excellent feasibility and acceptability with promising preliminary efficacy. This intervention is currently being tested in a multi-site trial. Ramsey's new line of research examines the temporal associations between alcohol use, intimate partner violence, syndemic factors, protective factors, and HIV medication adherence among men living with HIV who have sex with men, to inform future intervention efforts.
