Dr. Susan Ramsundarsingh

Biography

Susan Ramsundarsingh is an Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria in the School of Social Work. Her academic journey is rooted in social policy, community development, and integrated social work practice. With a PhD from the University of Toronto, Susan has extensive experience in social policy, nonprofit management, and wellness programming geared towards immigrant and refugee youth. Her practice emphasizes anti-oppressive methodologies and aims to uplift the voices of individuals and communities, facilitating meaningful social change. She integrates her understanding of human service organization management with her personal experiences, aiming to confront systemic oppression and advance anti-oppressive organizational structures. Additionally, Susan explores culturally-insensitive practices within social work, focusing on Vedanta influences and healing methodologies in her research. Her work is informed by her family's rich heritage, spanning generations in Canada, Trinidad, and India, which shapes her engagement with traditional territories and community-led initiatives.
